Lasers are used to detect the specific chemical compound in the breath of the patients suffering from diseases like cancer, diabeties and asthma patients .this technology is been used by the researchers at the National Institute for Standards and Technology and the University of Colorado. The technique once made perfect could save millions of life’s world wide. This would alarm the personal health and the detection of the disease very early as it is very sensitive to detect the odd molecules of the diseases in a millions of molecules.

technology used

The researchers used a technology known as an optical frequency comb. When a person breathes into a small chamber the scientists blow out air with lasers containing different wavelengths (making up the “comb”). Different sized laser beams excite specific compounds, which then emit different colors of light and the researcher simply notice the breath color to distinguish the form of diseases .

laser

Even the kidney and liver failure patients may be endorsed by this technique as the person’s breath molecular level changes due to these diseases. The device is under development and will cost around 30,000 to 50,000 USD.

This kind of device once ready could change the medical diagnosis of such lethal diseases.
