Ten years back Arundhati Roy wrote a famous essay called The End of Imagination in 1998 showing her dismay that India tested nuclear weapons to become a nuclear weapons state. Many called for her head and asked the government to declare her a persona non grata. Perhaps it is now the time she is thrown out of the country. She will find a cozy home in Pakistan after this.

Kashmir needs freedom from India. Let they have it. First let all the Kashmiri Pundits who were displaced by the Islamic terrorists be back to their homes. Then divide Kashmir into Laddhak Tibetan region, Kashmir and Jammu. Hold a referendum only in Kashmir and if 3/4ths of Kashimiris then want freedom, let them have it. Then make Arundhati Roy the Sadr-e-Kashmir.

The commentators are playing into the hands of Arundhati Roy. She was at the rally not as a representative of the whole of Jammu and Kashmir. She played to the gallery, to the assembled crowd, which was mostly seccessionist.

i was once in deep love with arundhati... i loved the way she looked.. i loved the way she dressed (ever so casually).. and above all i loved the way she wrote.. now she has lost her literary skills and has become a sort of political activist trying to do things just to create controversy.

In Kashmir, history has failed to integrate a people, who are still craving for an identity.
Amarnath row is about land, something which the Kashmiri’s hold onto fanatically .
The Times of India article concludes Roy’s remarks with,
“India needs azadi from Kashmir as much as Kashmir needs azadi from India.”
After having pumped billions of rupees to placate the Kashmiri people, does India need azadi from Kashmir?
The question needs to pondered upon. Are we forcibly holding onto a land that does not want to be a part of the ’unity in diversity’ identity.
Is it all about religious affinity and development and betterment of lives has nothing to do with it.
Whether a Kashmir needs azadi from India, let the Kashmiris respond to it.
A plebiscite may throw up some answers.
How it jolts the Indian union is just another gravity.

I agree with you, Ravinder...
The issue has been volatile for too long. It just can’t go on like this forever. Peace being restored only at gun point...
More than land, country, identities, religions - there are millions of people there who need reconnect to normal if not better lives...

I never expected this comment from such respecatable writer. Arundhati has proved that she is ”attention seeker celebrity writer.” And how she can can say that Kashmir needs to be separated from India. Eventually,if she thinks so, she needs to go from this country. Let me clear to Arundhati, if Kashmir is made free it will be another breeding ground for terrorist organizations like Al-Quida, taliban, and it will be more problematic and headache for India.

You are right Elias, Arundhati Roy has a thirst for fame. That’s why she is making such meaning sentences that is hurting a lot to the Indian minds. I can’t think, how she could make such a statement? She has perhaps lost her creative writing skills because of this narrow-mindedness. She should be banished to Pakistan. LOL!

We don’t need outsiders to demolish the integrity of India when likes of Arundhati Roy are there to serve the purpose of divisive forces operating in India .She has become a medium to spread hatred in the name of secularism .
