This sounds very familiar, as I have seen the marriage of a very close friend collapse after she started working. The reason, I feel is male ego, financial insecurity, and the spouse suddenly starts feeling ignored. Also with the woman suddenly earning her own money does not depend on her man to make financial decisions, until and unless it is perhaps like buying a house etc. It is a combination of multiple factors.

Men are unable to digest the fact that they have lost their importance to a certain extent. Well! Gradually they’ll get used to it. ;)

This is one of the many, many reasons I intend to live out my remaining years single and devoted to my twin boys.

It is the same old story. The initially supportive husband turns insecure and the marriage hits the rocks. I think this is the result of the ancient stereotypes that are deeply embedded in the psyche of men; that the man goes out and works and the wife dutifully waits with a smile at the doorstep when he returns home in the evening.
Old age mindsets are very difficult to change. The most tolerant of men buckle under the pressure of society.

Forget men, how many people can take someone else’s success in the first place...
And that I know as a personal experience... even the people I thought were my friends try to undermine me and take advantage of me because I was doing a tad better than them...
